Used electronics can still be high-value cargo. A broken monitor or collapsed carton on a pallet can turn a good deal into a loss. Packaging should therefore be treated as part of the product cost, not as an afterthought. Good practice includes securing cartons, balancing weight distribution, protecting screens and corners, using sound pallets when needed and labeling each shipping unit clearly.

If the cargo comes from a recycler, it may sometimes be packed in Gaylord boxes or large mixed containers instead of retail-style cartons. In that case, the packing condition should be known before pickup. Will it ship as-is? Does it need repalletizing? Are the actual dimensions suitable? These details directly affect freight cost and the risk of damage.

Freight cost is not based on the number of devices alone. The same number of laptops can produce very different rates depending on the US city, pallet dimensions, chargeable weight, transport mode, number of pickup locations and packing condition.
